Mind Power Through Mindfulness
Basic mindfulness exercises put you in a state of awareness where distractions are let go, and your mind power is able to function more effectively. They help you think more clearly and concentrate better. They are also easy exercises to do.
More Mind Power in Minutes
A basic mindfulness exercise starts with sitting down, relaxing and breathing deeply through your nose. Close your eyes and be aware of your breath going in and out. After a minute, move your attention to your body, one part at a time, noting sensations of cold, hot, tight, sore and anything else you identify. In a few minutes, start listening to sounds in the room, without thinking about them. Just listen.
When it feels right, open your eyes and look around as if you are seeing for the first time. Rest your eyes on an object for half a minute, examining it without talking about it in your mind. Then move to another object, and another, while still maintaining an awareness of your body, your breathing, and any sounds. Stay in this state of mindfulness until you are ready to get up.
Being aware of your body, breath and immediate enviroment, puts you more fully “in the moment.” Your mind is in a very receptive state, with fewer mental distractions that prevent clear thinking. Doing a mindfulness exercise before important mental tasks will give you greater mind power, specifically more focus and concentration.
An Even Easier Mindfulness Trick
Try this one today: When you feel stressed, stop, and carefully watch yourself to identify what’s bothering you. Maybe you’re expecting something bad to happen, or an argument is going on just below the surface of your consciousness, or you’re worried about something, or in pain in some way. Make a note of everything you find.
Then deal with these mind-irritants. Make a phone call that’s on your mind, take an aspirin, apologise to whomever you were fighting with. Write things on tomorrow’s list, to get them off your mind. If there’s nothing you can do right now, tell yourself that. Do this exercise, and you’ll feel less stressed, and more able to concentrate on the tasks at hand. You’ll have more mind power today.

Learning from Voom
Voom was thought to be the company that would be able to compete with DirecTV and Echostar in satellite service. However, after a $650 million loss it became clear that the company needed more than technology. By looking inside the Voom Company, you can learn from their business mistakes to avoid the same problems in your own business.
You Need More Than a Good Product
The Voom channels definitely had something to offer to their customers. Never before was such a wide selection of HD channels available for television viewers. However, it takes more than just a good product to make a profit. Market research needs to be done to see if anyone will buy the product. The money you put into research will definitely pay off to find out whether or not you can sell your product or not. You need to find out if you can make a valuable return on your investment or not. In the Voom case, their investment obviously did not provide the company with a profit.
Do Not do Business with Your Family
The Voom battle became a family feud. Charles Dolan, founder of Cablevision, felt that Voom was worth saving while his son the CEO, Jimmy Dolan, wanted to pull the plug. Eventually, Charles Dolan tried to buy Voom with the help of his other son. This caused major conflicts within the Dolan Family. You should avoid mixing family and business. This may seem like a harsh rule but it is something that can save a lot of heartache in the long run.
Know Your Competitors and Your Industry
One of the problems with Voom is that they did not expect the technological advances that their competitors had after they launched Voom. Know your competitors and know what type of industry you are in. Be aware of the outside forces that can affect your business. Is your industry known to change rapidly? Voom did not take into account what their competitors had up their sleeve and this became very detrimental to the business.
The Pain of Sunk Costs
It is hard to walk away from a large investment that does not give any returns. One must remember that a sunk cost is exactly what it sounds like; it is sunk, gone, vanished, kiss it goodbye. So many times businesses fall into the mistake of trying to save fallen projects because they have already put so much time and money into it. This was definitely the case with Voom. With the lost of $650 million Charles Dolan was bound to want to save part of the investment. This is an important lesson to learn in business. You must say goodbye to sunk costs.
Listen!
Charles Dolan dreamed about creating a satellite company that could compete with DirecTV and Dish Network. However, almost no one was supporting to Charles Dolan in his cause at the end seeing that Voom was bound to fail. However, Charles Dolan would not listen to the other board of directors and continued in his efforts to save the dying business. It is important to sometimes swallow your pride and listen to the arguments of those around you to see if they possibly have some validity. Be open to what others are saying because they just might be right.
While it seemed that Voom had the capabilities to change the way viewers watch TV and to be very profitable, instead it failed shortly after its creation. This is because of a few business principles that were neglected. When working with your own new business, make sure that your business plan makes sense and that you pay particular attention to your team, the external factors that could affect your business, and know how to walk away when your great idea turns out to be a flop. If you are willing to do these things, you will avoid running into the same problems that Voom did.

Buying DVD: Is it worth it?
There are a lot of good audio/video players available especially for movie enthusiast but is “good” enough? Guess not. Video and audio performance in all modern DVD players is excellent. Personal preferences, your budget, and your existing home theater setup all play a large role in determining which player is best for you. The budget and quality should be taken into consideration before buying the product by most consumers.
When we talk about quality, DVD is the new generation of optical technology. DVD is essentially a much bigger and faster CD that can hold cinema-like videos, better-than-CD audio, still photos, and computer data. DVD aims to bring home entertainment, computers, and business information with a single digital format. DVD has the capability to produce near-studio-quality video and better-than-CD-quality audio. DVD is vastly superior to consumer videotape and generally better than laserdiscs.
Most players support a standard set of features such as Language choice (for automatic selection of video scenes, audio tracks, subtitle tracks, and menus). Special effects playback: freeze, step, slow, fast, and scan. Parental lock (for denying playback of discs or scenes with objectionable material). Programmability (playback of selected sections in a desired sequence). Random play and repeat play. Digital audio output. Recognition and output of DTS Digital Surround audio tracks. Playback of audio CDs. Instant search to title, chapter, music track, and timecode. Durable (no wear from playing, only from physical damage). Compact size (easy to handle, store, and ship; players can be portable; replication is cheaper than tapes or laserdiscs).
The primary advantages of DVD are video quality, surround sound, and extra features. In addition, DVD will not degrade with age by overplaying it like a videotape hence it will allow you save lots of money and be able to collect your favorite movie and televisions shows for years and still be able to play it over and over again.
Most movie experts choose DVD as their preference for movie entertainment because of high quality resolution and excellent audio performance giving an excellent movie experience in their homes! Try it and see it for yourself and you’ll learn than every penny spent is worth it!

Penny For Your Thoughts?
Every artifact, every tool, everything ever designed or created by human beings for their own need, comfort, luxury, amusement or advancement began as an idea, a concept…a thought.
All wealth had its origins in thought. It is thought that creates. Everything that human beings have created is a product of mind. Wealth is created; it is the effect; thought is the cause.
A penny for your thoughts? How about a billion pennies instead for just one thought? No matter how you define wealth, your attainment of this wealth will depend upon the quality and consistency of your thinking combined with the clear and firm desire to realize what you idealize.
It is patently obvious that, since your mind is the cause and what you have is the effect, the place to work on your wealth is in your own mind.
Those who achieve and keep great wealth have learned to control the quality and consistency of their thoughts, their attitudes and their desires.
I call this the millionaire mindset. It is mostly about focus.
If you can, despite all distractions and obstacles, keep your mind focused upon what you idealize and desire, you will move steadily toward creating or realizing your ideal/thought.
Most people do not do this. They allow conditions and circumstances to determine how they think, how they feel and what they end up with. Their allowingness of that which is outside of themselves to control their mind and their results turns them into victims.
Those, who through the use of their will, use that which is inside themselves, that is…their mind, their consciousness, their idealizations, their thoughts, their desires, their passions and their beliefs to control who they are and what they create, end up as victors in the game of life.
Those who choose to adopt the millionaire mindset get to live the millionaire lifestyle. In other words, if you want to have more out of life, you must first become more. Since it is in your nature to want more, the only way you can find any kind of personal fulfillment is to become more.
It does not matter what it is that you want more of; the only way to get it is to become more. You become more by taking control of your self… your mind, your passions, your beliefs, then your words and deeds and thus… your results or what you end up having.
Simple formula … be, do, have.
If a hundred people are given exactly the same opportunity and the same resources to exploit that opportunity and the same playing field to take advantage of that opportunity, and 20 people excel at that opportunity and 20 fail (60% are average or mediocre), where is the difference?
The answer is that since the only variable in the equation is within each of the people, it is the mind, mental attitude or will-ing-ness to grow and become more that determines those who win and those who lose (and those in the majority who will, for comfort sake, remain average).
Losers will, of course, blame it on anything else and refuse to accept responsibility for being at cause. Winners will have chosen to become and do what was necessary to take advantage of the opportunity. They have accepted that they, themselves, are at cause and are grateful for the opportunity to prove that they can succeed, to prove that they are masters of their own destiny, not victims of fate and fortune.
So ask yourself, what are you thinking? A penny’s worth?? A million$ worth?? Just exactly what are you thinking and why? What is your intention in thinking what you are thinking? Want more out of life? Take control of yourself. Think on purpose, not by accident.

Digital Television: Why the UK is Sleep Walking to the Digital Switchover
Not many people seem to know this… By the end of 2012 the UK will have been the only country in the world to have totally made the switchover to all digital television. The digital switchover starts in 2008 – less than 2 short years away.
A recent Which Report (Which is the major consumer champion in the UK) shows that in many areas the awareness of the digital switchover is less than 2 %. Even in the Borders Television region – the first to make the change – only about a third of the people surveyed knew what was going to happen.
It really does seem that the UK is sleepwalking in to the Digital Switchover.
Not surprisingly, the whole switchover programme is being watched with keen interest by other nations around the World. The benefits of digital television for broadcasters, manufacturers and programme makers are pretty clear. The new media is already changing programme making – Planet Earth, currently showing on the BBC – is a prime example of what can be achieved. And of course the manufacturers are positively drooling at the thought of all the new televisions, video recorders and set-top boxes they expect to sell.
Consumers are set to benefit too – better pictures and sound, high definition television, interactivity, movies on demand… The list goes on.
Governments have a keen commercial interest too. They own the air waves. And digital television takes up much less band width than conventional analogue signals. So the move to digital frees up precious broadcasting capacity that Governments are keen to sell to the highest bidders. The sale of the mobile telephone spectrum for 3G providers raised over £20 billion. Who would bet that the sale of the television spectrum won’t raise significantly more?
The move to digital television benefits us all. So why do so few people know what is happening?
Simply being able to receive digital television is only part of the issue. Just about every television bought more than 12 months ago, and a good percentage of those being sold now, are effectively obsolete. All of them will need a separate satellite receiver or set top decoder box to receive digital signals. Every video recorder will also need an additional decoder.
The UK Government puts the average cost per household to upgrade to digital television at £132 ($210). I feel the real figure is likely to be 4 or times this level. Most homes in the UK have upwards of 4 televisions – each and every one will need significant investment to receive digital television signals.
In the UK 68% of homes already receive digital television in some form- satellite (which means BSkyB – the only UK satellite television provider), cable or terrestrial freeview. In almost all cases digital television is only watched on the main television in the house. The other sets are still restricted to the main analogue, terrestrial stations. From 2008 this has all got to change.
It’s time to wake up. We are at the threshold of the biggest change in the television experience since it was first invented.
Start planning your own digital switchover now.

Keith Longmire is a great believer in the switchover to digital television. His web site, http://www.thedigitalswitchover.co.uk, is full of information, tips and guidance on planning your digital switchover.
You Can Not Be SIRIUS! … or XM?
I think it was tennis great John McEnroe who made the phrase “You can not be serious” famous, but he certainly wasn’t referring to SIRIUS and the latest trend in digital satellite technology… Satellite Radio. Any discussion about Satellite Radio just wouldn’t be proper without first paying homage to its digital forerunner, Satellite TV. Since its introduction in 1994 Satellite TV has been the single most successful consumer electronics product in history. It only seems natural that on the heels of such success would come yet another form of digital satellite technology, Satellite Radio.
Satellite Radio squarely addresses the biggest problems associated with current radio technology. FM Radio signals are relatively short range and prone to static. Combine this with a healthy dose of commercials, and you have the makings for some pretty disgruntled listeners.
As far as technology is concerned, Satellite Radio leaves FM in the stone age. Multiple satellites located in geosyncronus orbits above the Earth deliver crystal clear, near CD quality audio signals to wherever you may be. That means you can get in your car and drive across the entire United States while listening to the same radio station. To top it off, your music will never be interrupted by annoying commercials! If you love music, Satellite Radio is a dream come true.
The Satellite Radio scene currently consists of two providers who eagerly compete for your business, SIRIUS and XM Radio. Both companies knew that it wouldn’t be easy to convince the public to part with their hard earned cash unless the value of their product was readily apparent. Having the advantage of starting with a blank sheet of paper, SIRIUS and XM have designed their systems from the ground up to be nothing less than state of the art.
SIRIUS operates from an ultra modern facility located at Rockefeller Center in the heart of New York City. Being in New York was an important part of their mission, as this puts them within close proximity to major recording artists, and disk jockeys. Their custom designed and engineered performance studios are frequently visited by top musicians stopping by for live interviews and performances. SIRIUS programming features over 60 music channels with ZERO commercials, along with 40+ specialized sports, news, and entertainment channels.
XM Radio’s broadcast center is located in Washington, D.C., and includes a 2,600 square foot performance studio for live recording and broadcasts. It is the largest and most advanced of its kind in the world, where artists from all musical genres come to perform exclusive concerts for XM listeners. For regional broadcasting and location work, the Washington studio is supplemented by studios in New York and at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. XM also offers over 60 channels of 100% Commercial-Free music, 30+ channels of News, Sports, Talk & Entertainment, and 20+ channels of XM Instant Traffic & Weather.
Although it’s in its infancy, Satellite Radio is begining to prove that people are willing to pay for what they currently can get for free. XM and SIRIUS Radio have been growing their subscriber base at a very healthy rate. With its roots in automotive sound, the recent availability of new hardware has truly made Satellite Radio a total solution. Walkman style units now allow you to take Satellite Radio just about everywhere, and sophisticated home units are also available that perfectly integrate SIRIUS or XM Satellite Radio into your home entertainment system.
The future looks bright for Satellite Radio. For those who spend a lot of time behind the wheel, the decision to switch to Satellite Radio can almost be a no brainer. The fees are reasonable, and the service and programming are absolutely top notch. The hardest choice you will have to make is whether to go with SIRIUS or XM Radio. All things in life should be this easy.

Dish Network and Direct TV Make Application to Join Forces
In October of 2001, Dish Network and Direct TV made a very serious attempt at joining forces with one another which would have given these two Satellite TV providers a huge monopoly in the satellite TV industry, however, the US Department of Justice took a bold face stance and blocked the merger.
If the merger between Dish Network and Direct TV would have taken place, the new company would serve the entire US without fear of any competition, resulting in a complete monopoly position that is not allowed. As we all know, competition spurs competitive pricing and continuous progress and a merger of this magnitude would basically result in less progress and the possibility of inflated prices.
At the present time Dish network and Direct TV are the only two satellite TV providers in America, a merger between the two would reduce this to just one company, which clearly is a dangerous monopoly situation for consumers at hand. Even in areas with cable TV the merger would result in just 2 television broadcasting providers, of which each has a monopoly on its own technology.
In their application, Dish Network and Direct TV claimed that their joining of forces was necessary to compete against the cable TV Giants. However, at the time of said application, statistics indicated that satellite TV was growing at an incredibly fast pace while cable TV subscriptions were on the decline.
Over all it seemed that without any other satellite TV providers a merger between Dish Network and Direct TV would not be in the public’s best interest.
The fact that there are two satellite TV providers and not just one is a blessing to everyone interested in signing up for Satellite TV Service, as mentioned earlier competition is good for pricing.
Dish Network and Direct TV are now going head to head with one another in a very aggressive marketing campaign and as a result the consumer gains to prosper very nicely by taking advantage of the phenomenal deals that are being offered by either of these two Satellite TV giants.
Pat Johnson is the owner of Dish Network and Direct TV Pat has many years experience in the Satellite TV Industry and has written numerous articles about Dish Network and Direct TV.
